Your Landscape Design Consultation

It’s time to sit with your Jefferson Landscape designer and get your landscape project started! The first thing you will need to do is determine what a realistic budget should be, and there are a few variables that can go into this decision. We can help. But the quality of the design is greater when the combination of its function and appeal is given priority over cost.

If the project exceeds the current budget, the client, along with their designer’s help, can sometimes alter the design to accommodate a lower price. This can be done by reducing the area dedicated to a more expensive component (i.e., concrete), and by increasing the area allocated for a less expensive item (i.e., lawn, bark). The cost can also be reduced by selecting a different material (i.e., bark for rock). Clients may also decide to install their project in phases, or install specialty items at a later date. Either way, the long-term value of your landscape should not be forfeited with a short-term view. Landscaping is an investment and should be treated as such.

Jefferson Landscape and Design’s minimum design charge is typically $600, which covers the average-sized front or back yard, and $900 for both (again, if average-sized). Larger projects typically cost more.

100% of the design fee will be applied toward the cost of the project (in most cases) when Jefferson Landscape and Design is hired to install your project.

Clients who choose to install their design in phases may have their design fee applied in whole or in parts, depending on how the project is phased. Designs are not kept on file indefinitely and are purged 90 days after they’re drawn. The client keeps the conceptual plan either way, whether they hire Jefferson Landscape and Design to install the project or not. The design fee is paid upfront.

The Conceptual Plan and Preliminary Proposal usually take a couple weeks, depending. After the initial design presentation, the finalized plans typically take a few days. The Final Plan will be included with a Final Proposal.

The Process

• First meeting is to view a portfolio of our work, discuss goals, the function of your landscape, and installation options. Hire us to create your landscape’s design.

• Second meeting is to provide a completed drawing, get your input and make necessary changes. We generally provide a preliminary proposal with the design’s first draft.

• Third meeting includes your finalized design and itemized proposal with detailed specifications and recommended materials for your approval.

Included with the Design

• Two (2) Copies (2’x3’ architectural paper and PDF file) of the final design drawn to scale; additional details are also included.

• Hardscape:  Concrete, Flagstone, Moss Rock Garden Walls, Decomposed Granite, Benching, etc.

• Softscape:  Lawn, Plants and Planting Areas, Trees, Groundcover locations.

• Waterscape:  Ecosystem Ponds, Pondless Waterfalls, Aqua-Basins, Spill Pots

• Lighting:  fixture location and type.

• Custom Components:  Arbors, Artificial Lawn, Fire Pits, etc.

• We also provide a categorized Plant List for making selections and related requests. (Design is not plant-specific. Plant varieties are determined by the installing contractor with client input.)

• Planting diagrams are available for an additional fee.
